Welcome to the Distributed Learning Centre
Our mission is to provide alternative routes to graduation. We provide the opportunity, encouragement and support for all members of our community to complete graduation requirements, especially those who have not found success or satisfaction in other school programs. Our programs consist of G.R.O.W. (Graduation Routes Other Ways), Distance Education, Skyline (Skyline Offsite and Secondary Transition Alternate Programs), and the SD27 Virtual School (Online Education). We enable student success by using alternative approaches to education. Although we work together as a school and share expertise and resources, we separate our programs according to student age, grade, and level of need.
The goal of the G.R.O.W. program is to serve a multitude of student needs by providing choices for students. We can meet the needs of any learner from Kindergarten to Adult graduation courses with a staff of professional teachers and support staff supporting students in achieving their needs.
Overall, we pride ourselves on providing quality online learning, and teacher assistance in either online (virtual school) or face-to-face communication. We focus on the individual and align ourselves to assist the student in their personal quest to become socially responsible and academically successful.
Our staff and programs concentrate on being:
- Welcoming and flexible
- Consistent in modeling respectful adult behaviors
- Encouraging of individual connections with staff to create a sense of belonging and support
- Focused on individual ownership of school program and progress to create a sense of accomplishment and self-worth
- Skilled in connecting students and parents with community resources to provide wrap-around service
Our program operates on a community based presentation model. We try to bring school closer to students to provide easier access. The hub of our operations is GROW - Williams Lake. Our major center is located in Williams Lake, which is a community storefront location on 2nd Avenue. Our secondary center is located in 100 Mile, also in a storefront location. GROW satellite centers are located in the communities of Alkali Lake, Anahim Lake, Dog Creek, Sugar Cane, and Toosey. Distance Education teachers are based in the Resource Center and travel directly to the homes of students.
