Welcome to the SD27 Virtual School
Welcome to the SD27 Virtual School. We utilize a variety of technologies to enable our students to complete BC Ministry of Education curriculum from any location in the world. Our web site serves as a portal for our students to utilize the Blackboard Learning Management System to communicate with instructors and access curricular materials.
Our courses run on the regular 10-month school calendar (Sept. to June) and course materials/curriculum are available 24/7. Our courses utilize non-traditional methods of communication and delivery such as email, discussion boards, blogs, and webcams, as well as more traditional forms of communication such as the telephone.
Our teachers are available Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm. We strive to have the following turnaround for messages and Personalized Feedback/Marking:
- 24 hour message turnaround during office hours
- 48 hour personalized feedback/marking
This means that if your instructor is unavailable during office hours, your message will be responded to within 24 hours. This also means that your course materials will be given personalized feedback/marking within 48 hours of submission.
Student Progress is monitored via:
- Phone calls & email
- Work submission
- Parent & student feedback
It is expected that students will make steady progress toward completion of their course(s). A general guideline would be the submission of at least one assignment per week; however this is subject to negotiation between the student and teacher. Failure to maintain steady progress in a course may result in removal from the program.
Students may sign up for courses via the LearnNowBC website and will receive a detailed welcome package upon confirmation of registration. We are currently offering the following courses as of January, 2009 (click on the link below for a course outline):
